Join The Institute for Families and Nannies and Hand-in-Hand for an online workshop for parents who employ or are thinking of employing a nanny.
In this two-part workshop series, parents will learn the basics of how to hire a nanny and create a share care arrangement during COVID-19 as well as how to be a good employer to ensure a successful working relationship and the best care for your child.
Topics covered include:
-Your rights and responsibilities as an employer, including employment laws, wages, sick leave & work agreements
-Recruiting, screening, and interview questions to hire the right candidate
-Health, safety, and background check requirements
-Ideas on how to create a positive, long-term relationship with your employee
-We will also discuss the unique aspects to create a successful share care arrangement. This is a great opportunity to meet other families who are interested in share care in your area.
We will explore what it means during the time of COVID-10, including recommended best practices to keep everyone safe from the spread of the virus, safety tips and benefits that are available to nannies.
Checklists, forms, and support materials will be provided. The Nanny Manual by Alyce Desrosiers will be available to supplement the workshop materials.

This workshop put on by Hand in Hand is facilitated by Bay Area parents who are current (or former) employers of childcare providers together they have over five years experience in this role. The facilitators also have experience with nanny-shares with two or more families. In addition to their own personal perspective on domestic employment, the facilitators draw upon lessons learned from the experiences of other Hand in Hand leaders in the Bay Area and from extensive interviews and focus groups done with nannies and nanny-employers in Park Slope Brooklyn, New York. The best practices presented during the workshop come out of consensus built within Hand in Hand, in close collaboration with the National Domestic Workers Alliance, representing 10,000 domestic workers from 26 states in the U.S.
