Many customers ask if they need to avoid alcohol-based tinctures during pregnancy or while nursing. The answer is no; tinctures contain a very small amount of alcohol, similar to that found in a ripe banana, and are safe to consume while pregnant or nursing (if the herbs themselves are approved for that use). Some people choose alcohol-free alternatives for personal, dietary, or religious reasons. Always give babies and children the non-alcohol version if possible. See Herb Lore's website for more information.
The herbs used in this combination have long been relied on by herbalists and mothers over the centuries to help soothe babies and help alleviate the pain and discomfort of teething. As well as being an effective pain-reliever and anti-inflammatory, the herbs also help relax babies, help promote restful, peaceful sleep, and help to alleviate any fever that may be present. The Rescue Remedy that is added is helpful for babies who are inconsolable and who are so upset that nothing seems to help. It brings them back from the edge so that they can relax enough to allow the herbs to help them. Weary parents find this combination helpful for their frayed nerves as well. (Herb Lore's herbalist Pam keeps a bottle of this in her purse as it effectively helps to reduce stress without causing any sleepiness.)
